Charlotte’s Annual
Travel & Cruise Show

According to travel industry experts, a record number of travelers in 2017 will be followed by an even stronger 2018. Charlotte’s Annual Travel & Cruise Show, hosted by Mann Travels, offered attendees free access to hundreds of vacation opportunities, presentations, and exclusive savings on cruises, tours, and more. The event, the largest of its kind in the region, took place on Saturday, February 3rd and was held at the Charlotte Convention Center. “The show gathers our top travel industry partners with our agents and our clients in order to create a one stop planning and booking opportunity,” comments Roni Fishkin, Director of Marketing & Events with Mann Travels. “Attendees were invited to collect more information and book on the spot to take advantage of all the show’s special offers.” Other features of the event included seminar presentations exploring new destinations and ways to travel around the globe. There was entertainment for families and door prizes as well. Though the event has passed, there’s still time to plan your 2018 travel! The Go Jen Go Foundation Announces Executive Director

The Go Jen Go Foundation has announced Susan Sears as the organization’s first Executive Director. Go Jen Go provides financial assistance to families fighting breast cancer in the greater Charlotte area, providing $103,000 in grants to 138 families in 2017. “Bringing on Susan as our Executive Director gives Go Jen Go a new level of commitment to our mission,” says co-founder Joe Pagani. “We will be able to serve so many more families with a renewed attention to their needs. While our all-volunteer board does an amazing job with the many hours they donate to supporting breast cancer survivors, Susan has a passion and a commitment to focusing on how we can better serve this community and will allow us to increase our donor base and provide support to more families in need.” Sears’ resume includes working with Charlotte non-profits Komen Charlotte and most recently Girls on the Run. Sears—whose passion to support breast cancer initiatives began after losing her mother-in-law in 2004—has served on the planning committee for Go Jen Go’s signature fundraiser the Run Jen Run 5k since 2013 and became a board member of the foundation in 2015.

South End Gallery Crawl

South End is home to the largest concentration of art galleries in Charlotte—including the Charlotte Art League, Ciel Gallery, and Coffey & Thompson Gallery—making it a thumping art scene! The South End Gallery Crawl is the hood’s signature event and occurs every month on the first Friday evening. Many of the galleries (and the occasional unconventional space, like a furniture store) will stay open late to host lively receptions for new exhibits with music, food and drink, and an opportunity to meet the artists. The galleries are always rotating interesting displays of everything from encaustic cityscape paintings and juried Carolina clay sculptures to funky natural jewelry and broken china mosaics. It’s easy to make a night of this award-winning event with shops, restaurants, and breweries around every corner, and the gallery crawl is free!
