June 2018 Around Town 2

Sol Fest

This is far more than a traditional beer festival! With numerous water races, trail racing, yoga, live music, this weekend-long (June 15 & 16) fest at the U.S. National Whitewater Center is fun for all ages! For the beer lovers, a wide selection of regional and national craft breweries will be featured from 1:00 to 6:00pm, providing tastes of their signature brews. For those looking to get wet, head down to the river for the Catawba River Races, where competitors will take on open water swimming, kayaking, or SUP, or Blazing Paddles, the USNWC’s head-to-head boatercross race through the competition channel. Enjoy the live music at the River Jam Stage, which lasts through the evening.

Arts at the Mill

Arts at the Mill is a three-day indoor fine arts festival held at the historic Mill in downtown Mooresville. Shop original juried artwork from talented artists, including paintings, photography, mixed media, pottery, fiber art, fine jewelry and more! This free event takes place June 15–17. Split the day between the festival and the NC Plein Art Exhibit at Mooresville Arts Gallery.

Craft, Crab & Cocktails

We love lots of words that begin with “c,” but some of our favorites? Craft, Crab and Cocktails—which means we’ll love the upcoming event with the same name by Founders’ Circle Contemporary Craft + Design Affiliate and The Mint Museum. The inaugural tasting, hosted at The Mint Museum Randolph on Saturday, June 16 from 6 to 9 pm, will include a buffet dinner with delectable Southern food, craft beer, and cocktails. The Oceanfront Band will provide oceanic tunes for the silent and live art auctions, which will include art donated by local collectors. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Mint Museum. Don your picnic attire and get ready for a summertime shindig! Find tickets at FoundersCircle.org.

Taste of Charlotte

2018’s Taste of Charlotte will take place June 8th through 10th, featuring over 100 samples from area restaurants along with live music, kid’s activities, cooking demos, and street performances. This year’s fest takes over Tryon Street, spanning six city block from Stonewall to 5th Street. The best part? It’s free! Just purchase festival coins to use for restaurant samples, beverages and kid’s activities.

Foggy Night in the QC by Jalisa Neale Wins!

South Charlotte Lifestyle’s followers whipped out their cameras and took to the city’s streets when we posed a challenge last spring: show us your neighborhood! We wanted to share the history of our city and see how folks see it through their own eyes. The winner? Foggy Night in the QC by Jalisa Neale! Jalisa won a $100 gift card

to Burtons Grill and Bar located at The Park Road Shopping Center for her eerie shot of Charlotte’s skyline. You could win, too—watch for contest announcements on our Facebook page!
