Charleston-Based Eatery Comes to South Charlotte
Verde, a fast-casual restaurant based out of Charleston, opened it’s fifth location in the Ballantyne neighborhood of South Charlotte this past July. Verde offers a menu full of vibrant salads, wholesome grain bowls, hearty wraps and freshly pressed juices, all created from more than 40 seasonal and regionally-sourced ingredients.
Charlotte Named One of the America’s Top Boomtowns
According to the Charlotte Business Journal, Charlotte is ranked No. 13 on the list of top 100 boomtowns in America. They list was created by MagnifyMoney, who tracked industry/business, population and housing and workforce and earnings growth in US cities between 2011-16. Also on the list was Raleigh (No. 3), Seattle (No. 20), Nashville (No. 5) and Austin, Texas, coming in at No. 1.
TSA Precheck Enrollment at Staples
On August 16, the Staples store in south Charlotte began enrolling individuals in TSA Precheck. The TSA Precheck allows passengers to get through airport security in five minutes or less because they don’t have to remove their shoes, coat or belts and can leave their liquids and laptops in their bags. Enrollment costs $85 and is good for five years. The south Charlotte Staples is the only store in North Carolina to offer the TSA Precheck service and it is located on 10850 Providence Road.
$300K Awared to University of North Carolina at Greensboro
According to the Asheville Citizen Times, a grant “just shy of $300,000 was awarded by the National Historic Publications and Records Commission to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to fund the expansion of a project to digitize nearly 10,000 slave deeds and bills of sale from 26 counties across the state.” The project is enormous, but once the records are digitized they will go into a searchable database.
Foundation For The Carolinas President Recognized by The NonProfit Times
The Foundation For The Carolinas President and CEO Michael Marsicano was named in the 2018 Power & Influence Top 50 list created by The NonProfit Times–the leading business publication for the nonprofit sector. The list honors nonprofit leaders for their innovation and influence on the broader sector. Marsicano was the only executive from the Carolinas on the list. According to Foundation For The Carolinas, “he was cited for his leadership with economic opportunity and upward mobility, as well as increased high school graduation rates and the Foundation’s work with disaster recovery related to Hurricane Matthew through its E4E Relief subsidiary.”
Macy’s Opens Discount Store in SouthPark Mall
Macy’s celebrated the grand opening of it’s “Backstage” discount store in SouthPark Mall on September 15. The retail space is almost 13,000 square feet and lives within the preexisting Macy’s. Backstage offers women’s, men’s and kid’s apparel, as well as home decor and footwear. According to Macy’s, prices are 20 to 80 percent less than regular ticket price.
